Club Formation Story

After several summers of meeting each other at different shows and cruises and talking about the need for a local club, several of us finally decided to test the waters and see if others felt the same.  Sixteen people came to our organizational meeting in June of 1999, and the TOP OF OHIO CRUISERS was started with the purpose of meeting others who enjoy and appreciate classic cars and cruisers, to share our knowledge in helping others with the restorations and maintenance of their cars, and to promote safe cruising and community service.  We meet monthly and have now grown to over 70 members.

We are located in Logan County, the highest point in the state – hence our name, TOP OF OHIO CRUISERS.  Club members designed the logo for our club which appears on our shirts and all of our communications.

One of our first activities was manning a booth at the Logan County Fair where we handed out membership forms to others who showed an interest in our club and found several communities and organizations who asked us to be a part of their future events.

Our first real test was organizing our first cruise.  It was held the first Saturday in Ocober in a local shopping center to raise money for “Warm Clothes for Kids”, a county wide charity that provides needy kids with a shopping trip to buy new outfits for school and winter.  Over 100 entries raised $1200 for the kids with hundreds of spectators enjoying the event.  We are planning to repeat the event the same weekend this year.

Other events in the planning stages for this year are a “Top of Ohio Poker Cruise” around the county and a “Cruise Downtown Bellefontaine” night to raise money to help restore a local historical theater.
